With a thermal ramp rate of up to 10°C per second, the xxpress is the fastest, real-time thermal cycler in the world, delivering a 40 cycle qPCR in just 10 minutes. Whilst not all PCR chemistries can run ultra-fast protocols on the xxpress, there are a number of chemistries available that are ultra-fast compatible and will reliably achieve 40 cycles in 10 minutes.

Intuitive User Interface Designed by Biotechnologists for Biotechnologists

Built-in MIQE support and an intuitive Interface.

The xxpress system has an intuitive, touch screen user interface that has been designed to mimic the way a biotechnologist would develop their experiments. The software guides the user through the experiment set-up, selecting the chemistry utilised, PCR type, plate format and thermal profile. It even provides guidance based on the MIQE recommendations for experiment design.

Thermal profiles are provided for a variety of reagent kits, which can be simply adjusted if required. The xxpress displays amplification and melt curves as they develop so the user can see their data collecting in real-time. Results can be exported in two formats, RDML and ExcelTM, enabling simple analysis.

All previous protocols and run results are stored on the xxpress. These can be accessed from the home screen via the ‘History’ and ‘Analysis’ tabs respectively.

A Range of xxplate Volumes Ensures Optimum Reagent Use


xxplates are available in a range of sizes: 24, 54 and 96 wells. They have been designed around a standard form factor and are therefore interchangeable. The xxpress will recognise which plate size has been inserted and in which orientation, adjusting the layout of your results accordingly. Our range of plate sizes cover sample volumes from 1µl to 40µl, allowing optimal use of reagents and minimising the cost-per-test. Our 24 and 96 well plates are set on a standard pitch, compatible with auto pipetting Systems.

5040 Rotary Microtome

The popular 5040 microtome is of rotary retracting, self-lubricating design and has a heavy cast alloy base and cutting arm. Its robust construction makes it accurate and incredibly reliable.

The use of fixed beryllium hinges means that all lateral motion is controlled and allows no slop or play that can be experienced in other, lesser designs which can result in ‘chatter’ and ‘thick and thinning’. The Clini-RF is a new type of freezer designed to rapidly freeze specimens for sectioning or processing.

It has a lower chamber which can be filled with 3M’s Novec 7100, into which specimens can be immersed. 3M’s Novec is the only freezing liquid that can be used due to it being none inflammble. Alternatively, an aluminium block can be incorporated, into which a specimen holder or chuck can be fitted. The upper chamber is used as a short term storage area for specimens after they have been initially frozen in the lower chamber.

The Clini-RF eliminates the need to use potentially hazardous substances such as carbon dioxide and liquid nitrogen. In order to save power, the compressor for the lower chamber can be manually switched off when it is not required and the Clini-RF will run in a ‘standby’ mode with the upper chamber still running at -40ºC.

A seven day timing device is available as an optional feature to automate switching between the ‘standby’ and ‘operational’ modes. An additional optional feature is a variable temperature control for temperatures above -80ºC.

For some sectioning work, it is necessary to cool a specimen below room temperature. The Solid State Freezer can be fitted to most microtomes and will permit specimen cooling from ambient to -25ºC or lower, depending on conditions. The equipment consists of a cooling stage and a control unit. The cooling stage is best suited for operation with a base sledge microtome, but can be fitted to most rotary microtomes.

The Eco-friendly Bead Bath

Lab Armor Beads are dry, thermal metallic beads designed to replace water in any Standard depth, non-circulating and non-shaking lab water bath. Beads can also be used to replace aluminum blocks in dry baths and ice in ice buckets. Beads are dry and naturally more resistant to microbial growth than water and therefore less likely to harbor and contribute to transmitting microorganisms in the laboratory.

Lab Armor Beads prevent distorted data and dangers resulting from inaccurate temperatures, evaporated lab water baths, and water-exposed contaminated samples. The Beads are designed to decrease microbial contamination that can ruin experiments or lead to safety issues in the laboratory.

Lab Armor Beads flow fluidly and can conform to all sizes and shapes of vessels placed within the bath. Vessels prone to tipping over or floating away no longer require racks, floats or bottleneck weights to secure them in place. Sample vessels can be conveniently buried into the beads to avoid temperature gradients associated with exposure to room temperature air.
